Hecho Inc. is a Brooklyn-based design and construction firm whose partners, Phil Morgan, John Kole, and Jeff Kaufmann, are responsible for the construction, development, and launch of over seventy-five bars and restaurants in New York City. Hecho's projects demonstrate a seminal utilization and creation of space, eye-popping treatment of design, and exemplify a tangible re-invention of construction and engineering techniques. They have won a reputation for their bold and exceptional blend of design, function and fabrication, producing spaces that exude a singular style and enable a client's ideas of service and operation to be wholly and aesthetically realized.

The firm was founded in 2004 by partners Phil Morgan and John Kole who met in the spring of 1998 while living in Paris. Morgan, a longtime Parisian resident, was (and remains) a partner in The Lizard Lounge, a bar and restaurant he and two friends had designed and built in the Marais. The W Gallery, in Montmartre, represented Kole, a recent graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design. As an artist living abroad, Kole tended bar to make ends meet and would soon find a job with Morgan at The Lizard Lounge, which would establish an ongoing working relationship from that point on.

By 2001, they had re-located to New York to build the restaurant, Suba. Morgan, a co-owner, was responsible for its construction and hired Kole as a foreman to help oversee the project. Upon Suba's completion, Morgan served as its general manager and hired Kole to manage the bar. While broadening an already extensive knowledge in bar and restaurant operations, their time at Suba resulted in a desire to expand upon their work and pursue a larger, more comprehensive approach to bar and restaurant development in New York City. As Kole says, "The idea was, after all the functional experience inherent to the industry --- the dishwashing, the waiting tables, the bartending and managing --- we really missed building and making the bar, the dining room, the entire space. This led to a better understanding of how these kinds of things get done and ultimately makes a client happy."

In addition to designing and building venues, Hecho Inc. proudly owns & operates Brooklyn restaurant Building on Bond, along with a third partner, Jared Lewis. Opened in 2008, "BoB" is attached to the offices of Hecho Inc. and serves as a typical example of the ingenuity Morgan and Kole bring to their work. Notable too is Watty and Meg, a second restaurant partly owned by Hecho Inc., located on Court St. in Carroll Gardens. The work keeps coming: two more extensions to Building on Bond are currently in development, in addition to the recent opening of the Hecho extension, "Mercy hardware," a conceptual design studio devoted to the transformation and production of excess or orphaned building materials.
